Transport for Wales (TfW), alongside Cyngor Gwynedd (CG), have identified an opportunity at Bangor Station – the busiest along the North Wales Coast – to improve both the welcome into the City of Bangor, and improve interchange with onward modes of transport.

This Bangor Gateway - Station Quarter study aims to understand current problems and barriers faced when travelling to, from and using Bangor Railway Station, with an aim of achieving the following high-level objectives:

Project information

Transport for Wales (TfW), alongside Cyngor Gwynedd (CG), have identified an opportunity at Bangor Station – the busiest along the North Wales Coast – to improve both the welcome into the City of Bangor, and improve interchange with onward modes of transport.

This Bangor Gateway - Station Quarter study aims to understand current problems and barriers faced when travelling to, from and using Bangor Railway Station, with an aim of achieving the following high-level objectives:

  • Improve the welcome to the city of Bangor;
  • Improve travel interchange with onward travel modes (for example, if interchanging between rail and onward bus); and
  • Improve user experience at the station.

To help complete this study and develop potential options most suited for implementation at Bangor Railway Station, WSP have been commissioned by TfW to prepare a WelTAG Stage Two Outline Business Case. This will build upon the work already completed as part of the development of the Bangor Masterplan, acting upon the recommendations within this that highlight the potential of the area, and how it can contribute to support other regeneration projects underway across the City.

Have your say online

We would be grateful for any responses to the survey, or additions of ideas onto our map. Alternatively, you can provide more generalised comments under the 'ideas' tab. The feedback tools are available using the tabs below.

Comments and feedback at this early stage will help us to develop the design options based upon the current barriers experience, and suggestions of ideas to improve.

What will happen after this engagement phase?

Suggestions received will be considered against their contribution towards the objectives, as well as local, regional & national policy ambitions. We will also consider their likely deliverability - as well as benefits and/or impacts upon social, economic, environmental and cultural factors. Should these shortlisted options be accepted for progression, we will then progress (subject to funding and agreement of partners upon the options) through WelTAG Stage 3, at which point we would seek specific feedback upon the more detailed designs.

  • Have your say

    We want to hear about your current experiences of the welcome and interchange provided at Bangor Station so that we can help develop plans to improve this.

     This survey will help us identify patterns and demand from people using all types of travel methods - the survey should take around 5 minutes to complete and will be open until the 23rd December 2022.
