Wrexham Gateway – Eastern Development Zone

Wrexham County Borough Council have been working in partnership with Transport for Wales, Wrexham University and Welsh Government, through the Wrexham Gateway Partnership, to develop proposals for a major mixed use regeneration scheme, along the Mold Road corridor, in the area surrounding Wrexham General Railway Station. The Scheme seeks to deliver transformational change in the area for the benefit of Wrexham residents, business and the wider sub-region through the delivery of high quality development, enhanced sustainable transport connectivity and significant improvements to the local environment.

Wrexham Gateway Proposals

Due to the scale of the Wrexham Gateway Project and the investment required, the scheme has been divided into an east and west zone.

Proposals for the west zone include the delivery of a new Kop Stand at the Stok Racecourse Stadium along with a potential 4 star hotel. Planning consent has recently been secured for the new Kop Stand with development due to commence in summer 2025.

Proposals for the East Zone include the delivery of :

  • A new transport hub to the front of the Wrexham General Station, a key driver of the scheme, embedding sustainable travel at the heart of the proposals by providing improved interchange facilities between rail and bus with enhanced walking, wheeling and cycling connectivity between the railway station, the City Centre and other nearby destinations.
  • A new landmark commercial development.
  • A new public plaza and landscaping scheme providing an enhanced setting for the station, new commercial development and welcome to the City of Wrexham.
  • Improved highway infrastructure and access to the site.
  • The potential for a new brewery with a tap room, restaurant and museum as a brand new visitor centre

A plan incorporating all these key elements has now been developed.

Where are we up to and why are we engaging with the public?

Wrexham Council will be submitting an outline planning application for the Wrexham Gateway East Zone proposals but would like to share these with you in advance to hear your views on what is being proposed. All comments received will be considered and where possible and practical will be used to inform the proposed development.
