An 8-month programme of transformation work took place on the upper Rhymney line (between Caerphilly and Rhymney) in 2025 as part of the South Wales Metro. The project supports the introduction of more frequent, greener and reliable services in the future.
To complete this work safely, there were periods when sections of the line were closed, with rail replacement services provided and some works were carried out at night.
The line improvements build on recent progress across the South Wales Metro, including the introduction of new Class 231 trains in 2023 and the major timetable upgrade in 2024, which increased services between Caerphilly and Cardiff to every 10 minutes.
Why this survey matters We’re asking for your feedback to help us understand how the transformation work and service changes on the upper Rhymney line have affected you and what we can do to improve our communication. Your views will help shape how we plan, coordinate and share future service information.
