We want your feedback to help shape improvements to Bangor railway station.

The Bangor Gateway project is a Transport for Wales (TfW) led scheme to improve Bangor railway station and the surrounding area. Bangor railway station is the busiest station in North Wales, serving around 720,000 passengers each year, and is an important gateway to the city of Bangor, Eryri, and the wider region.

The project forms part of the wider Network North Wales programme, which aims to create an integrated, high-frequency public transport network that better connects people to jobs, education, services and leisure opportunities across North Wales.

As part of Network North Wales, rail services along the North Wales Main Line increased by 50% in May 2026. These additional services create an opportunity to attract more passengers to rail and improve sustainable travel across the region. The Bangor Gateway project is intended to ensure that Bangor railway station can support this growth by providing better passenger facilities, improved interchange with buses and coaches, enhanced accessibility, and a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors.

What feedback are we requesting?

We want to understand how you currently use the railway station, how you feel the station serves your needs, and which options under consideration are most popular. Public feedback will help us understand local priorities and assess how the proposed options meet the needs of residents, businesses, passengers and visitors.

We are also interested in hearing from those of you who do not currently use Bangor railway station and whether the proposals could encourage you to travel by rail more frequently.

Feedback received during this engagement will be considered alongside technical assessments, project objectives and policy requirements as part of the process for identifying a preferred option to take forward. Your views will help ensure that the scheme responds to local needs and delivers improvements that make a real difference to those who use Bangor railway station and the surrounding area.

How do I submit my feedback?

You can complete our on line survey by clicking on this link Arolwg orsaf drenau Bangor | Bangor railway station Survey.

The survey is open from Tuesday 20 October to Friday 20 November.

Alternatively, you can attend one of our public drop-in events at Bangor railway station, where our Project Team will be available to answer your queries and provide further details on the project, if required. The details of the public drop-in events are as follows:

  • Bangor railway station (Station Road, Bangor LL57 2DP) on Thursday 22 October between 08:00am – 14:00pm.

  • Bangor railway station (Station Road, Bangor LL57 2DP) on Monday 2 November between 16:00pm – 21:00pm.

The options being proposed for Bangor railway station are detailed below and drawings can be found to the right of this page.

Options at the front (north) of Bangor railway station

A preferred option has already been identified for the front of Bangor Station following previous WelTAG studies and public engagement. The proposal aims to create a more attractive, accessible and welcoming arrival point for passengers, while improving the overall station environment.

The proposed changes include:

  1. Improvements to public spaces and the station forecourt.

  1. New and improved pedestrian routes and crossing points.

  1. Enhanced accessibility and wayfinding.

  1. Retention of bus stops, taxi ranks and vehicle drop-off facilities at the station front.

  1. Removal of long-stay parking from the station frontage to create more space for passengers and public realm improvements. The long-stay parking will be relocated to the rear (south) of the station.

  1. Retention of disabled parking close to the station entrance.

The aim is to reduce the dominance of parked vehicles at the main entrance and create an attractive welcome to the city that better reflects the station's role and its role as an important gateway to Bangor and Eryri.

Options at the rear (south) of Bangor Station

Six options are being considered for the rear (south) of Bangor Station. All six options would provide long-stay parking moved from the station front (north), along with electric vehicle charging points, new cycle parking facilities, and enhancements to the public realm.

These proposals are intended to support the preferred improvements at the front (north) of the station while ensuring sufficient parking capacity is retained and enhanced. The options also seek to improve access for passengers, support future growth in rail use, provide facilities for new coach services, improve sustainable travel connections, and accommodate growing demand following the increase in rail services delivered through the Network North Wales programme.

The key differences between the options are the level of additional parking provided, whether a new access road is created, and whether coach facilities, which would support the TaithCymru service, are included.

Option 1: Relocated Car Parking

The simplest option would relocate the long-stay parking spaces from the station front to the south side of the station.

It includes:

  • Replacement long-stay parking.

  • Electric vehicle charging facilities.

  • New cycle parking.

  • A signal-controlled junction on Caernarfon Road to improve access.

Option 2: Relocated Car Parking with Coach Facilities

This option builds on Option 1 by providing a new coach stop facility alongside the relocated car parking spaces as well as a new access via Euston Road.

It includes:

  • Replacement long-stay parking.

  • Electric vehicle charging facilities.

  • New cycle parking.

  • A vehicle drop-off area.

  • A coach stop.

  • A new access road via Euston Road.

Option 3: Additional Surface Car Parking

This option would expand parking provision beyond replacement of the relocated spaces, while also providing a new access via Euston Road.

It includes:

  • Replacement long-stay parking.

  • Additional parking capacity (40 additional bays).

  • Electric vehicle charging facilities.

  • New cycle parking.

  • A vehicle drop-off area.

  • A new access road via Euston Road.

Option 4: Additional Surface Car Parking with Coach Facilities

This option combines increased parking capacity with enhanced coach facilities, as well as a new access via Euston Road.

It includes:

  • Replacement long-stay parking.

  • Additional parking capacity (27 additional bays).

  • Electric vehicle charging facilities.

  • New cycle parking.

  • A vehicle drop-off area.

  • A coach stop.

  • A new access road via Euston Road.

Option 5: Multi-Storey Car Park

This option would provide additional parking through the construction of a four-floor multi-storey car park in place of the existing car park to the rear (south) of the station, alongside a new access via Euston Road.

It includes:

  • Replacement long-stay parking and additional parking capacity (108 additional bays), in the form of a multi-storey car park in place of the existing car park.

  • Electric vehicle charging facilities.

  • New cycle parking.

  • A vehicle drop-off area.

  • A new access road via Euston Road.

Option 6: Multi-Storey Car Park with Coach Facilities

This option would provide additional parking through the construction of a three-floor multi-storey car park in place of the existing car park to the rear (south) of the station. It also includes enhanced facilities for passengers and coach services, as well as a new access via Euston Road.

It includes:

  • Replacement long-stay parking and additional parking capacity (108 additional bays), in the form of a multi-storey car park in place of the existing car park.

  • Electric vehicle charging facilities.

  • New cycle parking.

  • A vehicle drop-off area.
